I hope by now you have all had an opportunity to listen to the latest Andy Stanley Leadership Lesson Podcast. If you haven't please do so soon. The reason for this blog is to open up dialogue since it is difficult for us to meet on a regular basis outside of Sunday morning.
I thoroughly enjoyed all of the comments you guys left last week addressing the Catalyst recap. I spent hours reading and thinking of all the inspiring words you guys left. If you didn't read the comments go ahead and click on the link. if you don't see any comments left it is only because you guys failed to leave any. Way to pitch in and get involved!!!!
Anyways, let's try again and see if we can get something rolling.
Here are some of my thoughts and things that stuck out to me on Mutual Submission:
-every once in a while I will read or hear something that will just see to scream truth. This lesson was one of those to me. I found myself hearing words to the actions I want to lead with.
-"Do for one when you can't do for all"
I love this. There is a tendency to think (especially as we grow as a church) that we have to be fair for everyone. Truth is not everyone is equal. I think this applies staff and church wide. Most people on the outside or the losing end of this principle will scream that you are playing favorites. When in actuality...YOU ARE. AND THAT IS O.K.
-I loved the image of Symbolic Leadership: do for one what I WISH I could do for all.
-Do you feel that we have an organization where your opinions are encouraged, free from the fear of punishment or recourse?
-HOW CAN I HELP YOU?
seriously, I know that our current level as a church has us doing a lot of stuff as a unit but what do you wish I could help you out in?
-there is tension between point leadership (which is a biblical model) and team or consensus based leadership (which is man made based on the fairness doctrine)
-What are some ways we can and do serve back down through the organization?
-In your opinion, are we working at an unsustainable pace that is keeping us from serving each other?
I LOOK FORWARD TO YOUR THOUGHTS.
Also, since funds are light with the renovation and stuff, let's go ahead and start next generation leader. Have chapter one read by next tuesday and I will post some thoughts and questions then.
Heart and Soul,
BAG

The main concept that stuck out to me was the same as Bags - Do for one what you wish you could do for all. I feel that I was shown - if you cant do for all, then dont do for any. What a crazy concept! We will never be able to do all the things we want to do - and we need to set boundaries - but there are some things we want to do and should and not feel bad about hurting other peoples feelings.
Also - I love the feedback idea Andy gets from new employees. One lady talked about how WORDS wont be as effective as ACTION when reaching lost people. I believe that is so true. We can speak well, have moving worship and really cool programs - but lost people usually need something that may require action OUTSIDE the church building. Which brings me to something Ive been thinking about quite a bit. How we - as people - are the church.
To answer some of Bags questions:
I do feel that my opinins are encouraged mainly because I an very comfortable talking with you guys. I value your opinion and trust that what I say gets heard. I have had people in the past not listen to me when I talk or give ideas - and that is when I shut down or only talk with Bag.
Bag - you can help me out by having more sex with me. JK - IDK I enjoy our open communication and you allowing me to add imput and value where and when I can. If I need help with anything - I always let you know.
There are opportunities now for us to serve down - maybe with people like Sheila and Corbett - what could we do to say thanks to people who do what they do every Sunday?
And I do feel that we are working at a fast pace mainly because we are all doing multi things.
Catalyst recap for me - Ill keep it short and sweet. Two things that I cant get out of me head:
If not me - then who? If not now - then when?
What can we do that knowone else is doing to reach lost people?
I LOVE YOU GUYS!
Andy was super real good as usual. Oh...Ginger just got in bed...finish later...I had a couple cups of coffie so I may come back at about 2am when I give up trying to sleep...
If you can impact one, then do it. Working with teens has kind of challenged me here because I hate it if/when someone looks at me as playing favorites. Although I do agree with the thought process, I do have a hesitation to apply this in every aspect of my life because people are so fragile that they can be burned if you do something for someone else that you didn't do for them. I guess this is what makes it hard for me to say no to people. ......... I guess this is something I need to nail down..
And yes, I believe our communication is wide open. Mostly because the majority of us have all either grown up together or really gotten to know each other in a way that communication is easier.
I don't know where you can help me that you aren't already.
Oh and to finish, Serving from the top down is something that I need to be better at. Somehow, I have this thought process that people are here because they want to help and that motivation is all they need. Well, motivation just isn't enough sometimes and I feel that I have lacked in bridging that gap.
Peace out fools
